by Sean McPhearson

As with almost any electronic gadget you have many options when you go to select one. Looking for a fishfinder is no exception. Two of the most notable companies that produce fish finders are Garmin and Humminbird. Ever since the 1970s with the inception of the Humminbird company their units have been popular among anglers.

For the recreational angler the Humminbird fishfinder 535 is an easy-to-use device. The 535 offers a large screen that gives a sharp clear image that will help you find the fish. While the device is easy to use it still has lots of functionality and several advanced features.

If you’re looking to make the catch without breaking your budget then the Humminbird 535 is just what you are looking for. You might say it’s a budget catch that won’t break your budget. Even though it’s a low-cost device it has some really powerful features like a sonar beam optimized for coverage that gives you precise details of the bottom at up to 800 feet. Of course that is the manufacturers specification and several real-world users have reported less success than 800 feet.

The Humminbird 535 is small so it won’t take up a lot of room on your boat or in your gear. Even though it’s small it offers real-time sonar that captures the action happening below you at up to 40 times per second. To further enhance things the 535 has sonar Echo enhancement to bring into focus even the smallest details.

The display screen is a high-resolution 5 inch LCD screen that provides 16 levels of grayscale. The display configuration can be set up to display what is called a white line or high contrast and bottom Black or structure ID bottom presentations. So you will have several options for how you want to display the view of what is under the water.

The Humminbird 535 is capable of an accurate display even up to speeds of 70 mph. The device even includes water temperature readings to help you find the hot and cold spots.

This fishfinder uses X-press menus that make it easy to select the features you need with fewer clicks. It comes with a button set up to take you through different zoom levels from 2x, 4x, 5x and 8x. It also includes features like recording lapsed time, distance, and average speed if you get the optional speed sensor. In addition if you like to stay out late and fish in the dark the 535 offers a LED backlight so you can still find the fish.

As mentioned the 535 is rather compact making it really easy to take with you wherever you go. And because it has an easy mounting system it’s easy to transfer from your boat to your friends boat.

Any fishfinder should be waterproof and the Hummingbird 535 is and it even floats. If you drop it accidentally into the water don’t stress just fish it out and go on catching your fish.
